I am born in the world as a new sun,
I have not learned the ways and fashions of the sky:
Not yet have the stars fled before my splendor,
Not yet is my quicksilver astir;
Untouched is the sea by my dancing rays,
Untouched are the mountains by my crimson hue.
The eye of existence is not familiar with me;
I rise trembling, afraid to show myself.
~ Allama Iqbal (from Secrets of the Self)

Iqbal can guide us with his words.

How most reassuring to know that Iqbal also felt as we so often do...and could assert his self-hood and honesty enough to write such clear, simple, profound and HELPFUL WORDS...so that we who follow him can brave our trembling to rise and show ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I've run across recently that helps me to feel like not throwing a certain icon away completely is when I heard her say she simply wanted and wants to help herself and viewers to not be afraid to assert who they are. With Iqbal we have not only the needed tools for this yet also the role-modeling to be our HIGHEST self.
Hi Connie,

I do agree...Iqbal points the way to us.
Icons can open one up.
All good wishes,
